The Triwizard Tournament

The Triwizard Tournament is a huge contest between the largest schools in Europe. These schools include Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Drumstrang Institute, and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. To understand a little better about the other two schools here is a short introduction.

Drumstrang Institute is a school for witches and wizards that is located in Northern Russia. The school does accept international students from Europe. The school was founded in 1294 by Nerida Vulchanova. The school does not accept Muggle born students. They also traveled by ship when they arrive at Hogwarts.

Beauxbatons Academy of Magic is also a school for witches and wizards that is located in French Pyrenees, France. The school was founded before the 1920’s (exact date unknown) by Bri Papillonlisse and few other unknown founders. Majority of the students are from France but they do accept students from Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Belgium.

Each school is represented by one student in which is selected by the blue fiery cup that the student themselves must enter by writing their names on a piece of paper and drop it in the goblet. This tournament is considered very dangerous and does have a high death toll over the course of it’s 700 year history.

What started as a friendly competition between schools grew and turned into a legendary rivalry between the schools. Where the winners themselves were considered legends after and some former winners even died.

The Triwizard Tournament did get suspended after 1972 after three of the head judges were killed by a beast that went rampage. Serval attempts to bring back the games were tried but proved unsuccessful until 1994. After a long hiatus the games were back when Harry Potter was in the 4th year at Hogwarts.

New rules were added to the tournament, included no student underage is allowed to compete. Something however went wrong as someone put in Harry Potter’s name in the goblet. He only found out later it was Barty Crouch Jr. who was disguised as Alastor Moody using the transfiguration spell.

The tournament included three stages: golden egg begin guarded by real dragons, swimming in the Blake Lake to rescue fellow students who were guarded by merpeople, and lastly a dangerous maze to reach The Triwizard Tournament trophy.

The maze part however did not go as planned as Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory were transported to a graveyard where Credic was murdered by Peter Pittigrew. Peter Pittigrew was a follower and assisting Lord Voldemort. He performed an ancient ritual while Harry was bound to the grave of Voldemort’s father. Harry got very lucky has he barely escaped with Credic’s body using the trophy as a port key with the help of Cedric Diggory, Frank Bryce, Bertha Jorkins, James Potter and Lilly Potter as spirts who distracted Voldemort.

The prize was given to Harry Potter after but the award ceremony was canceled. Harry did want to give the prize money to Cedric’s parents but they refused. So he ended up giving it to George and Fred Weasley who ended up using the money to start their own business Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes.
